Meetings in Wuppertal - Part 1
Wuppertal's suspension railway
The elevated railway has been in existence since 1 March 1901 and is considered a landmark of Wuppertal. Since 26 May 1997, it has also been a listed building and is therefore one of the most important sights that you must see during your stay in Wuppertal. The route it takes is also quite extraordinary: it runs over water and directly through the city. Very famous among others is the "water route", which runs over the river and is held in the air with huge supports. Then there are the so-called "land routes", which lead directly over pedestrian zones, car streets and also over busy intersections. Wuppertal's suspension railway is the city's most popular means of transport, carrying around 100,000 people a day. That is more than a quarter of the entire population of Wuppertal.
Düssel - Well-known tributary of the Rhine
The Düssel is also very well known. As you can tell from the name, the river has something to do with Düsseldorf. The 40-kilometre-long tributary rises in Wülfrath -Blomrath and runs through Wuppertal, Mettmann, Haan and Erkrath. Finally, it flows into the Rhine in Düsseldorf in four branches. Very well known is the part near Königsallee in Düsseldorf or the mouth in the Media Harbour. The Düssel is a popular bathing river in Wuppertal and can also be partly navigated by boat. A real tip for hot summers!
